Conservation + Comics - Preserve, Protect, and Make Art with the National Park Service

Art is a powerful tool that can transcend barriers – it can help scientists meet people where they are and tell relatable and impacting stories that move minds. With the Conservation + Comics program, Cabrillo National Monument (National Park Service) provides a distinct experience for youth and families in the greater San Diego area. In our two-part program, participants will be guided by a biologist through a thematic nature exploration of the park, then an art educator will lead the participants in an innovative way to tell scientific stories – through comics!

Engage with our aquarium Interpreters on the floor to learn about the animals in our Hall of Fishes, Gray Whales migrating off our coast, Specimens in our Oddities collections, and, some of the tiniest but very important organisms in the ocean, known as plankton. Each day will present different ocean-themed activities for the week. These activities are included with the price of admission.

Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar—Celebrating Women in STEM Edition

What sounds like the beginning of a rather bad joke is actually a fun community program by the Fleet Science Center. During Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar®, local scientists will enjoy something we all do: a good conversation in a local bar.

On March 12, we are excited to put a spotlight on all the amazing female scientists and engineers in San Diego as we bring back Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar®—Celebrating Women in STEM Edition.
