Cox Communications

The Cox IP Packet Racer depicts how packets of information blast through Cox’s Gigablast fiber optic network from one point to the other! Participants will build their own “IP Packets” (similar to wooden derby cars) and race them on Cox’s High Speed Internet network. Participants will be able to decorate their “IP Packets” before racing them down the track. This fun and interactive activity helps kids learn about science and engineering concepts.

American Heart Association

Every second counts in cardiac arrest, which can happen at any time. Each year, more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States. When a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on immediately receiving CPR. Unfortunately, about 90 percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a victim's chance of survival. Learn Hands-Only CPR and be the difference for someone you love.

SDSU CMIL Marine Science Day

Ever wonder what goes on inside a marine research laboratory? Ever wonder what gadgets and gizmos scientists use to study the marine environment? Come visit the SDSU Coastal and Marine Institute Laboratory to find out! Meet marine biologists and scientists at San Diego State University, interact with local sea creatures, and learn about San Diego’s diverse marine ecosystems.

Food Science: Emulsification

Science can be found in everyday activities, like cooking. Join Chef and owners Doug Cook and Malane Drake as they invite you to their restaurant, Mishmash, to learn about emulsification through the process of making whipped cream and Cesar dressing from scratch! This event is ideal for kids in grades 4 and up. Space is very limited, please sign up at MishMash. If space runs out, not to worry! 52 Weeks of Science Barrio Logan and MishMash will have many more opportunities to dive into the science of food!

Corning Life Sciences

Corning Life Sciences will have hands-on tools for attendees to try out liquid pipetting and a color mixing station where attendees can try using the pipets to create new color solutions.  We can also answer general laboratory questions for the curious minds!

Boz Institute Life Science Seminar Symposium and Program Launch

Join us for our grand opening and first formal life science seminar symposium at the Boz Institute. Learn about our initiative and our current research modules utilized to prepare program participants for exciting careers in life science, and find out how to get involved. Our current research includes local ecology plant biodiversity, environmental science, cell-signaling and aging, neurobiology, single-cell organism intelligence...

DIY Bio: Engineering Biology

How can we grow flowers that change color, produce microbes that make perfumes, or build organs from scratch? In this Library NExT workshop, students will explore synthetic biology, the intersection of biology and engineering. They will find out how DNA can be changed to alter the way biological systems work. Students will also learn about bioprinting – using 3D printing to make functional body parts – and try out this technology as they create models and art pieces to take home. Geared for Middle School ages.
