River Bugs Are Cool

Learn how bugs can unlock secrets about the San Diego River’s health! Work with scientists to collect a sample and examine real living aquatic bugs, play games, and take home an activity book. Supplies will be provided, but please wear clothes that can get a little dirty. The activity takes about one hour, and we will have three rotations (all with the same activities). Rotations begin on the hour at 10:00, 11:00 and noon.

County of San Diego's Department of Environmental Health & Quality - Hazardous Materials Division & Beach and Bay Program

The Department of Environmental Health & Quality will be conducting an interactive exercise where attendees can hold a CO2 bubble. Additionally, the Hazardous Material Division and the Beach and Bay Program will provide information regarding the regulation and handling of Hazardous Materials & Hazardous/Medical Waste. The Beach and Bay program will be providing information regarding the sampling and posting of signs warning of contaminated water at beaches affected by sewage spills.

San Diego County Vector Control Program

The Vector Control program will provide an experience to view real-life samples of the mosquito life cycle under microscopes. You will get to see what each stage looks like and what you should look out for in your own backyard to prevent mosquito breeding. Mosquitofish will also be on display! There will be many free giveaways including pencils, insect repellent, mosquito activity books, stickers, and more!

Think Blue San Diego/City of San Diego's Stormwater Department

The Think Blue activation would showcase SWEEP-E -- the City of San Diego's first 100% electric mini street sweeper -- and give attendees the opportunity to climb behind the wheel. Giveaways would include SWEEP-E stickers and coloring pages/crayons for younger students. Cuyamaca College

Our booth activity aims to engage participants with Kumeyaay Science, fostering a connection between modern scientific principles and traditional knowledge. The booth will feature two engaging activities, each offering a hands-on experience that brings to life the intersection of indigenous wisdom and contemporary science. In essence, our booth activity offers a glimpse into the wisdom of the Kumeyaay people and demonstrates the relevance of their scientific practices in today's world.
